Caroline4Cobb needs your help in GA

A personal plug, please accept apologies if this is the wrong forum — however I feel my wife needs help from afar as well as local.  Its a small race for a medium county, which we are working to turn blue, and which might happen given the poor performance of the current Republican County Commissioner.  The current CC has been raking in over $100k/yr (they JUST voted and got signed a bill changing the position from full time to part time and dropping it to $46k/yr) and we are NOT looking to cash in on the position.  Rather, some of her goals as stated to me and on her website are to repair the gaping deficit, increase teacher pay, and work towards public transportation, and more.

EDIT: As suggested by DixieCollie (thank you) a little more detail.  This is in Cobb County GA, just outside Atlanta to the NW.  We have a broad blue base which is good, but in at least federal voting (which this is not) that federal district contains a portion of Alpharetta (due north from Atlanta — both are in the suburbs) Alpharetta strong R so we tend to lose national — gerrymandering...).  TBH I am not sure if her county commissioner seat contains Alpharetta but I suspect not.

As for her positions, she is passionate in regards to bringing in new libraries where they are needed (as well as returning funding to them which has been drastically lowered by the previous board), senior services such as preventing seniors from being removed/evicted from their homes and work on services for low income seniors.

In regards to transportation, most of the county is under served by public transportation (which many in East Cobb have none and want it badly, instead of sitting in traffic for an hour).  Education — she supports more funding for schools with particular attention to special education  programs and luring in the best and brightest to our colleges.

She is a strong proponent of transparency, as if anyone knows the Atlanta Brave’s deal this was drafted and signed without public opinion or interest as the Chief Commissioner would visit each commissioner privately (a meeting of 2 is not a quorum and is not required to be public, but a meeting of three is quorum and required to be held in the public with commends and concerns from citizens voiced) and was delivered with LOTS of legal holes that put the county budget seriously into the financial red ink.   This reflects back on the prior interests as they have all had funding cut to pay for the Braves’ new stadium in Cobb County.

She has an interest in promoting common sense gun control laws, work on getting the community aligned with emergency response services, and a heavy emphasis on the blight tax (a diary unto itself — basically its enforced but not well and is too low).

She is also passionate about equality in terms of ensuring all citizens are registered and able to vote, attempting to reign in the monstrosity of ID requirements that require even able bodied and financially stable people from being able to get said ID to vote, let alone the poor and under served — how can you get to the DMV for an ID, or go to the hospital you were born at or the county offices to get a copy of your birth certificate, when there is no public transportation infrastructure?

EDIT 2:

Candidate’s name is Caroline L Holko, my wife, I am Andrew Holko :)

EDIT 3:

(changed picture at top of story to something a little more flattering)

(end edit 3)

Her current and only primary contender is an R who only went D because the R party denied to let him run as an R.  His website and facebook pages are full of standard R talking points, and he even outed himself as an R until the R’s rejected him and then the D’s allowed him to join.  I’d post a link to his sites but I think that would be in bad taste, and his name is blocked from my memory. I post this in hopes of reaching more people and raising money for the campaign.  We cannot fund personally, and she is working GOTV as well as phone banking for other local running officials to get her name out there, and she plans postcards and canvassing both with other officials and on her own.  She cannot be officially supported by many organizations until after the primary, and while I am pretty sure she will win, I don’t want to leave it up to chance.

Please consider donating to her here or here (although the second one expires in 3 days).  We are trying to get ActBlue figured out but its being troubling…  I will work on getting that up.  She is a strong fighter and will work hard for her county and constituents on both sides of the aisle for the betterment of the county.

Thank you for your time.
